Stamped Concrete vs. Stamped Concrete Overlay
What is the difference?
Stamped concrete and Stamped overlays have been very popular choices for many years but why one over the other. This is the main difference between them, a Concrete Overlay it is a new surface going over another. Concrete Overlays can be a very economical alternative to Stamped Concrete which is usually a new concrete pour that is brought in by a concrete truck. After the concrete is poured it is then colored and stamped with special stamps. Whereas Stamped Concrete Overlays are mixed onsite and are made to go over-top an existing surface then can be stamped, hand carved and colored giving you an all new look saving you money, time and aggravation in the process.
If you want the look of Stone or Tile when pouring a brand new patio, pool deck, driveway or other concrete surface you would want to install stamped concrete at the time of installation. However, for an existing concrete patio, pool deck or driveway that is still in relatively good condition and a stamped look is desired then a Concrete Overlay can save you a lot of money since you don’t have to tear out and replace your existing concrete surface.
Some of the most popular Overlay options are:
Spray Knock Down pattern: Good for Pool decks and driveways
Broom Finish: Good for Pool decks and driveways
Basic color and wood look texture: Good for patios and basements
Base color and Stamped texture: Good for Basements and Patios
Multi Color and Hand Carved grout lines: Great Flagstone look on patios
